‘Tis the Season

We are really in FULL swing of the Holiday Season!  Christmas parties and lots of gatherings with friends and family.

Thanksgiving starts the whole thing off and it just doesn’t seem to slow down until New Year’s.  With a New Year’s Eve first birthday, I have a feeling things are going to be even BUSIER!

I know I updated about Thanksgiving yesterday but I CANNOT believe I forgot to mention the chaos that kicked off our holiday season another first for Max in my update yesterday.  The Monday before Thanksgiving Max  hurt his wrist.  He was running (full speed) to great Kelly at the door when he tripped and ran into the wall/garage door with his arm and face.  He cried, we iced it and just didn’t think much more about it.  There was no bruising and no swelling. Honestly, I just figured it was just another case of Max falling down.  He never said another word.  Well on Tuesday morning, we got ready, I took the kids to school and I went to work.  Not 30 minutes after dropping Max off, his school called to let me know he was complaining that his wrist hurt.  Of course, he told them the whole story of falling.  Being the mom, I, of course, was skeptical.  I asked if they thought he was “really” hurt or was enjoying discussing talking about getting hurt.  They responded that he definitely “hurt” more the more he talked about it and his wrist did not begin “hurting” until someone fell in his class and was getting attention.  They agreed he was likely fine and just seeking a little attention.  I told them I’d call the doctor to see if the doctor thought he needed to be seen and for them to call me if the “pain” persisted.

When I picked him up, the school let me know that he seemed fine but that his wrist was very slightly swollen and he really didn’t seem to use it all day.  So, I called the doctor and we went to be checked out.  During the examination, the doctor didn’t notice any swelling or bruising and commented how unremarkable it seemed, however because Max was so specific in his description of pain she decided to take some x-rays.  Low and behold, he fractured his wrist!!!!!!  ARE YOU JOKING?!  I, of course, being the mom, felt TERRIBLE!!!!!  Then (in part because of my profession) explained that he had not even been 24 hours since he injured himself and there were really no indicators it was fractured.  The doctor reassured me that we were well ahead of the game because she wouldn’t have taken her child to the doctor either at this point.  Made me feel a teeny bit better but I felt so guilty!  So, Max is in a brace for 4-6 weeks.  So far so good – other than they STINK (baby powder helps).  We’ve already had to get a new one because he has slowed down a bit and they are tearing up.

Here’s my baby and his little brace:

Things have been moving non-stop since that Tuesday!!  We’ve been SO busy.

We decorated our tree (well Max and Kelly decorated the tree – I was sick and maybe a little underwhelmed when it comes to trees and decorating for Christmas – terrible, I know).

Kelly’s cousin Sarah, her two kids, Owen, and Augusta Grace came over last weekend and we did some Christmas crafts.  I had SUCH a nice Saturday.  I love spending time with family and Sarah is lots of fun!!  Max is still obsessed with Jackson!!  I’m glad Jackson is sweet with him.

We went to family Christmas party this weekend where Max got to see Santa!!!  He was mesmerized!!  Maggie was pretty interested (or confused) too.  Max asked for a blue car – which is really a Toy Story Racing toy he was playing with in the playroom of the house.  Good thing Santa was listening!  Winking smile

(Don’t worry while I may neglect to quickly take my children to the doctor when they break their arms, I did not take Maggie to a party in winter without any shoes or socks – that little stinker refuses to keep her socks and shoes on her feet.)

Kelly and I celebrated our 6th Wedding Anniversary on Saturday.  Amazing how much things change in 6 years time – it’s a totally different world!  This year the traditional gift is iron.  Well, it just so happens that our iron went out!!!!  So, Kelly got a FANCY new PINK iron.  Yes – I got my husband (who irons better than any person I know) a PINK IRON!!  Funny thing is, I think (other than the pink part) he likes it!!  It’s WAY nicer than our prior $19.99 Walmart iron.  For me, as luck would have it, my straightening iron recently quit working – so I got a fancy new PINK hair straightener!!  HAHA!!!!  Like I said COMPLETELY different world – our first anniversary the traditional gift was paper, so we gave each other “paper” tickets to the bowl game and went to Florida.  Now, 6 years later we are gifting appliances and I wouldn’t have it ANY OTHER WAY!!!!  I’m sure a blessed girl!!  He’s the best dad and husband – EVER!!

We can’t wait for Christmas to arrive and spend time with family.  Max wants to make Jesus a birthday cake.  Isn’t that so sweet?!  Take care and have a WONDERUL week.  Love and hugs!!
