Snug in her bed!

Home Sweet Home with Daddy!

She FINALLY made it to our room and gave us a smile!!

Welcome Maggie Girl!
Maggie has arrived! I'm so far behind on posting that its embarrassing but I figured I'd better update the blog so I won't forget our happenings! We left our house on Friday, New Year's Eve, at 6 a.m. I was very sick and convinced Dr. Harrison wouldn't deliver Maggie. Margaret Grace McNulty arrived at 10:20 a.m. on December 31, 2010. She weighed in at 8 lbs. 2 oz. and measured 20.5 inches. She was born with a rash all over her body, which turned out to be nothing more than baby acne, however as a precaution she was taken to the NICU for tests and monitoring.
As I said earlier, Maggie's birth was, unfortunately, accompanied by LOTS of illnesses. I was sick when she was born, Linda (who was keeping Max) became sick the day she was born, and Kelly became sick while we were in the hospital. (My mom escaped getting sick!) Poor Linda - In addition to her getting sick, Ted had a virus while they were keeping Max. Thank goodness Memaw and Papaw were able to help with Max.
My stay in the hospital was the longest time I'd ever been away from Max. It was really hard and I missed him like crazy. I talked to him one night on the phone. It completely broke my heart. He cried. He asked me to come get him and repeatedly told me he needed me. So sad. Because Maggie was in the NICU, everyone was sick, and his sad little phone call, we decided it would be best for Max not to come to the hospital. We decided he would have a melt down when it was time to leave and Maggie really didn't need to be exposed to any unnecessary germs.
We got home on Monday afternoon and Linda brought Max after work. He wasn't overly interested in Maggie. He did love the Buzz Lightyear spaceship she brought him and the dinosaurs from Owen, Shannon and AG. To this day, every time he sees the buzz he says, Maggie gave me my buzz. The majority of time I was pregnant Max would say he had baby Lucy in his belly. So, we gave him a baby doll. He was pretty sweet with his baby Lucy the first day. He gave her a "bottle" and a bath. While Max was pretty sweet, he, however, was not gentle. He threw poor baby Lucy out of the bath tub - guess we know not to let him bath Maggie!
One night he asked Kelly when Maggie's family was coming to get her because they need her. He watched me change her diaper one day and noticed her umbilical cord. He exclaimed, "Look, it's Maggie's penis." So now every time he sees he belly button he calls it her penis. He always wants to touch her and give her "wuvin." He really is infatuated with her or so I thought. Last week when I picked Max up at school, his teacher told me how Max informed her that his baby cried too much and he was going to get a new one. So, I asked him about it and sure enough, he told me it was time for Maggie to go home and he was going to put her back in my belly. I let him know my belly was closed!
Maggie is a really sweet little girl - Max is giving her a bad rep. So far, she has a very calm demeanor and has been easy to soothe. We've had some real eating issues. She is an EXTREMELY lazy eater. While she was in the NICU they gave her bottles, a feeding tube and pacifiers - so she has been very confused. We went to the dr. on Thursday, Jan 6th. She weighed 7lbs. 8 oz. Because she was so far from her birth weight they scheduled us to come back on Tuesday, 1/11/11 (her due date), for a weight check. In between that time it SNOWED!!!!! We got between 5-6 inches. It was so neat, especially considering that it snowed when Max was born too! Max wasn't really that interested in the snow - it was too cold for him!
Because Maggie had some serious eating issues, I wasn't surprised when she actually lost two ounces. After she lost weight, I went to a lactation consultant and we got real serious with Maggie's eating. When we went back to the doctor on the next Friday, she was up to 7 lbs. 9 oz and then at our next dr. visit on Jan. 18th she weighed in at 7 lbs 14 oz. She is now about 9 lbs. 8 oz and is SLOWLY gaining weight. This is SO different from Max, who was back to his birth weight within about a week. Gaining weight and eating (efficiently) was never a problem for him! Because everything has been so different I really feel like a first time mom!
She is so dainty. It's sweet. I love looking at her. She has the sweetest little dimple in her right cheek. I'm afraid at the pace we are going, we may really spoil her rotten. I think I hold her ALL the time!! She has started sleeping "alone" - she sleeps in a little co-sleeper bed and I sleep beside her! Hopefully she'll be in her bed soon.
Max had some issues adjusting. While he is very sweet with Maggie, he had regressed with his behavior. He doesn't want to listen or do as he is told (at home and school). We expected he would have some issues but it doesn't make it easy nonetheless. Because Maggie demands most of my time, which is a huge change for Max, it makes me sad to discipline him. He has gotten better and pretty much back on track. Say a prayer for us that his better behavior continues.
I started Jan 14th and it's only taken me about a month to finish it - so maybe we'll get on a schedule and I can write my next post in less than a month! ;)
Hugs from our family of FOUR!!!
